1938-ൽ തിരുവിതാംകൂറിൽ മൂന്ന് റൂട്ടുകളിൽ ഓടിത്തുടങ്ങിയ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് മോട്ടോർ സർവീസാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ കേരള സ്റ്റേറ്റ് റോഡ് ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് കോർപ്പറേഷൻ.
Today's Kerala State Road Transport Corporation began as the State Motor Service, which started running on three routes in Travancore in 1938.
ഈ ചരിത്രം ആരംഭിക്കുന്നത് തിരുവിതാംകൂർ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിൽ നിന്നാണ്. ലണ്ടനിലെ പാസഞ്ചർ ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് ബോർഡിൽ അസിസ്റ്റന്റ് ഓപ്പറേറ്റിംഗ് സൂപ്രണ്ടായിരുന്ന ഇ. ജി. സാൾട്ടറെ 1937 സെപ്റ്റംബർ 20-ന് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിന്റെ സൂപ്രണ്ടായി നിയമിച്ചു.
The story begins with the Travancore State Transport Department. E. G. Salter, an Assistant Operating Superintendent from the Passenger Transport Board in London, was appointed its Superintendent on 20 September 1937.
അഞ്ച് മാസത്തിനുള്ളിൽ സർവീസ് നിരത്തിലിറങ്ങി. 1938 ഫെബ്രുവരി 20-ന് ശ്രീ ചിത്തിരതിരുനാൾ മഹാരാജാവ് സ്റ്റേറ്റ് മോട്ടോർ സർവീസ് ഉദ്ഘാടനം ചെയ്തു; രാജകുടുംബാംഗങ്ങളായിരുന്നു ആദ്യ യാത്രക്കാർ, ഉദ്ഘാടന ബസ് ഓടിച്ചത് സാൾട്ടർ തന്നെയായിരുന്നു.
Within five months the service was on the road. On 20 February 1938 His Highness Sree Chithirathirunal inaugurated the State Motor Service; the royal family were its first passengers, and Salter himself drove the inaugural bus.

ലണ്ടൻ പാസഞ്ചർ ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് ബോർഡിലെ ഇ. ജി. സാൾട്ടറെ തിരുവിതാംകൂർ സ്റ്റേറ്റ് ട്രാൻസ്പോർട്ട് ഡിപ്പാർട്ട്മെന്റിന്റെ സൂപ്രണ്ടായി നിയമിച്ചു.

ആദ്യ സർവീസുകൾ The first services
തിരുവനന്തപുരം–നാഗർകോവിൽ, നാഗർകോവിൽ–കന്യാകുമാരി, നാഗർകോവിൽ–കോളച്ചൽ റൂട്ടുകളിൽ 39 ബസുകളുമായി പൊതുസർവീസ് തുടങ്ങി.
Public service begins with 39 buses on the Thiruvananthapuram–Nagercoil, Nagercoil–Kanyakumari and Nagercoil–Colachal routes.

സ്വയംഭരണം Autonomy
കോർപ്പറേഷൻ സ്വയംഭരണ സ്ഥാപനമായി പ്രവർത്തനം ആരംഭിച്ചു.

ആദ്യ ബസുകളും നിരക്കുകളുംThe first buses and fares
ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച എൻജിൻ, കേരളത്തിൽ നിർമ്മിച്ച ബോഡി, അര ചക്രത്തിന്റെ കുറഞ്ഞ ടിക്കറ്റ്. An English engine, a locally built body, and a ticket that started at half a chakram.
ഇംഗ്ലണ്ടിൽ നിന്ന് ഇറക്കുമതി ചെയ്ത 34 ബസുകളിലായിരുന്നു തുടക്കം. അവയ്ക്ക് Perkins ഡീസൽ എൻജിനുകളായിരുന്നു; ബോഡി നിർമ്മാണം സാൾട്ടറുടെ മേൽനോട്ടത്തിൽ നാട്ടിൽത്തന്നെ പൂർത്തിയാക്കി.
The beginning was made with 34 buses imported from England, fitted with Perkins diesel engines. Their bodies were built locally, under Salter's supervision.
1938 ഫെബ്രുവരി 21-ന് പൊതുസർവീസ് തുടങ്ങിയപ്പോൾ മൂന്ന് റൂട്ടുകളിലുമായി 39 ബസുകൾ നിരത്തിലുണ്ടായിരുന്നു. ടിക്കറ്റ് നിരക്ക് അന്നത്തെ നാണയമായ ചക്രത്തിലാണ് നിശ്ചയിച്ചിരുന്നത്.
When public service began on 21 February 1938 there were 39 buses on the road across the three routes. Fares were set in the currency of the day, the chakram.
